Ever fancied being a pageant girl? Whatever you think of mainstream beauty competitions, Miss British Beauty Curve probably isn’t it. The only requirements for entry are that you’re over 18, and a size 14 or above – and it’s all about celebrating plus-sized women.
Online registration for 2020 is already open, and the winner walks away with a ticket to Miss International Curve 2020, plus a slew of prizes including jewellery, a crown, and an official photoshoot with Hello Gorgeous studios. As a contestant, you’ll also receive a day of classes in pageant training (either group or one-to-one), covering how to get that pageant-ready walk, posing, and style tips. You’ll also get to attend a Q&A with past winners so that you know exactly what to expect going in.
The annual event is usually held in August (in 2019, the final was 24 August, in Maidstone, Kent). It began in 2012 as a way to show the world how amazingly diverse the UK really is – the pageant’s tagline is “Diversity in Pageantry”. If you don’t fit the mainstream ideal of beauty, this might just be the place for you. It has three categories, to give everyone a chance to get involved; Miss British Beauty Curve for ages 19-29, Ms British Beauty Curves, for women aged 30+, and Mrs. British Beauty Curve, for married women.
We can't wait to have MBBC back for The Curve Fashion Festival 2019! We know they always have so much fun over on their stand and it's a great opportunity to have a chat with the team and find out how to get involved!
Whether you win or not, the pageant has a great atmosphere. Some thoughts from previous contestants: Miss Cheshire Curve 2014 said “I really enjoyed myself and the experience and will without a doubt be applying for next year!”, while Miss Somerset 2014 said that she’s “So happy that pageants for curvy girls exist because no matter what size you are, you are beautiful”. A quick peek through the gallery of past pageants (on their website) shows plenty of smiles, plenty of laughter, and plenty of diverse beauty.
